He then secured a recurring role as Chris Wolfe in The WB’s Dawson’s Creek. While filming in North Carolina, Behr discovered the script for Roswell High (later shortened to Roswell) and felt a connection to the lead character, Max Evans. The show had a decent run on The WB for two seasons before moving to UPN for its third and final season.

After Roswell, Behr diversified his career by taking on various film roles, including Unsub Lee’s Happily, Even After; Jeffery Levy’s Man of God, and Rebecca Cook’s Shooting Livien. In 2001, he played Dennis Buggit in Lasse Hallstrom’s The Shipping News, alongside Kevin Spacey, Judi Dench, Julianne Moore, and Cate Blanchett.
