The film focuses on the origin story of Cassandra Webb, played by Dakota Johnson. Who develops psychic abilities and becomes the clairvoyant known as Madame Web. Madame Web Production
Following their involvement in the Marvel Comics-inspired Morbius (2022), a production within Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Sony Pictures enlisted the talents of Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless in September 2019 to craft a screenplay centered around the Marvel character. In May 2022, Tom Rothman, the CEO and chairman of Sony Pictures. Announced that filming was scheduled to commence “in the spring.”
During this period, Celeste O’Connor secured a role in the film, described by Deadline Hollywood as an origin story focusing on the titular character. Moreover, Sony characterized the movie as a “standalone origin story” and a “suspense-driven thriller,” deviating from the conventional superhero film genre. Furthermore, Di Bonaventura added that the film would offer a unique perspective on the character and her origin. Principal photography kicked off on July 11, 2022, in the Financial District of Boston, continuing through July 14.
The scenes aimed to capture the essence of 2000s New York City, incorporating locations such as Chinatown, and Manhattan. In March 2023, reports surfaced regarding Sweeney’s role, identified as Julia Carpenter. A detail confirmed in May, alongside Johnson’s portrayal of Cassandra Webb. It’s noteworthy that Sweeney’s character was ultimately named Julia Cornwall.
Madame Web Music
Johan Söderqvist was revealed to be composing the film’s score, after previously working with Clarkson on Anatomy of a Scandal (2022), in November 2023.
Madame Web Release Date
The film is officially scheduled to be released in the United States on February 14, 2024 (that’s just this coming Wednesday!). It will be released in IMAX, 4DX, and ScreenX formats as well.
