After returning from Japan to his homeland, Bevin enlisted in the United States Army. In 1990, he completed a six-week course known as the Junior Maintenance Course in Kentucky. Subsequently, he was stationed at Fort Polk in Louisiana, serving in the 25th Field Artillery Regiment. During this period, he underwent extensive training, including a forty-hour program at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Due to his positive attitude and demeanor, Bevin made remarkable progress in the military. He advanced from the rank of a second lieutenant to that of a captain, receiving several prestigious medals in recognition of his achievements. In 2003, he transitioned to the Army Reserve.

In 2013, Bevin ventured into politics by announcing his candidacy to challenge Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in the 2014 U.S. Senate Republican primary election. His bold move garnered substantial support from Tea Party Movement-affiliated groups. However, he faced challenges as McConnell criticized his consistency in statements and policies.

In 2015, Bevin entered the race for the governorship of Kentucky. He secured victory in the primary election by a narrow margin of 0.03% of the vote over James Comer. Subsequently, he competed in the general elections and emerged as the winner on November 3, 2015, defeating the Democratic nominee, Jack Conway, with 8.71% of the votes. Both elections were closely contested, but Bevin prevailed.

Alongside his political career, Bevin has a significant military background, having served as a captain in the U.S. Army. He has also dedicated himself to philanthropy and has held the position of Chairman of the Board for the American Red Cross in the Louisville Area. Notably, Bevin has contributed substantially to educational initiatives, supporting scholarship funds for those with limited social and financial resources to pursue further education.
