During his time, he showcased his skills as a long snapper, wide receiver, and defensive back on the scout team, sharing the field with future Pro Football Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison. His contributions earned him the title of Scout Team Player of the Year in 1992.

While pursuing his education at Syracuse, Hanson gained practical experience as a summer intern at WXYZ-TV in Southfield, Michigan. In 1993, he embarked on his professional career as an anchor and reporter for NBC affiliate WPBN-TV in Traverse City, Michigan.

Subsequently, Hanson moved to Springfield, Illinois, in 1994, remaining with NBC as a reporter for WICS-TV. His career then took him to Tampa, Florida, where he covered the rise of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under coach Tony Dungy at ABC affiliate WFTS-TV.In 2000, Hanson joined Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia for a two-year stint, working as an anchor on SportsNite and serving as an intermission reporter for the Philadelphia Flyers.

In 2002, he transitioned to Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic in Bethesda, Maryland, where he assumed the roles of main anchor and reporter. The year 2006 marked Hanson’s move to the NFL Network, where he became a versatile figure, contributing as a reporter, anchor, and host.

As of 2022, he holds the position of National Correspondent and hosts the NFL Network’s show, NFL RedZone, a role he took on in the fall of 2009. On Sundays, Hanson presents live NFL coverage for an impressive seven hours straight, from 1:00-8:00 PM EST, without commercial breaks.

Additionally, he hosts Up to the Minute on Mondays, providing insights into NFL games from the previous week and previewing the Monday Night Football matchup. Hanson also co-anchors NFL Total Access during the week. In 2015, Hanson expanded his hosting repertoire, serving as the blow-by-blow announcer for Spike TV’s Premier Boxing Champions series.
