A 53-year-old woman, identified as Marites Fortaliza of Queens, was rescued by authorities after being trapped for three days and nights in a private elevator at a Manhattan townhouse owned by a billionaire investment banker. Fortaliza, who worked as a housekeeping employee for the banker’s family, was found dehydrated but in stable condition at Weill Cornell Medical Center.
The rescue operation was initiated after authorities received a call around 10 a.m. on Monday from the residence located on East 65th Street, near Central Park. Additionally, Firefighters successfully freed Fortaliza by forcibly entering the elevator, which had stalled between the second and third floors of the five-story property.
Fortaliza recounted to authorities that she had been trapped since Friday, while the owners were away for the weekend. In response to the incident, the family of the banker, identified as Warren, released a statement on Monday describing Fortaliza as “a valued member of the Stephens extended family for 18 years.”
