Born into the family of Iqbal Chagla, a notable Indian lawyer, she is the granddaughter of MC Chagla, a renowned Indian freedom fighter who served in the Jawaharlal Nehru Cabinet and later as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court from 1947 to 1958. MC Chagla, initially associated with the Muslim League, distanced himself from the organization when its leader, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, advocated for a separate Muslim state.
In January 2017, she and Mistry celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary in the Swiss Alps alongside close friends and relatives. The Mistry family has ties to the Tatas through Cyrus’s sister, Aloo, who is married to Noel Tata, Ratan Tata’s half-brother. Moreover, in the 1930s, Shapoorji Mistry, Cyrus’s grandfather, acquired a stake in Tata Sons, currently at 18.5%, making Mistry the conglomerate’s largest shareholder.
